- Nicole and Suzie at Yappy Hour
Last week my sister Tasha and her dog Riley, our friend Suzie and her dog Race, and myself and Zara headed over to Tijuana Flats for Yappy Hour. Haven’t heard about Yappy Hour yet? You’re missing out on all the fun! Every Thursday night from 6-9pm, Tijuana Flats welcomes dogs onto their patio to enjoy delicious mexican food, listen to live music and support a great cause (they donate a portion of their Thursday proceeds to our local humane society, PAWS). PAWS always comes out in full force, bringing adoptable dogs who are looking for new homes. It’s a great way for your dog to interact with a potential buddy, on neutral ground and without tension. Look out for the dogs in the orange vests…they’re the ones who are looking for their forever homes.

Along with good atmosphere, great customer service and delicious food, Tijuana Flats also has a wide selection of microbrewed beer. After working a long day at the store, my Berry Weiss from Leinenkugel hit the spot with it’s light and sweet taste. I also sneaked a taste of a friend’s pumpkin ale and I instantly wanted to jump into a pile of colorful leaves. Okay…maybe not, but it did remind me of fall and was quite tasty.
While the girls and I were enjoying our cheesy queso, salsa and freshly baked chips, our dogs were enjoying sniffing and greeting other dogs who were arriving. One fiesty little Frenchie, Chloe, was sporting a jean jacket and boy did she know how to rock that jacket! Chloe was a good sport with all the dogs, even putting up with a little brattiness from my Zara, who decided she didn’t like the way Chloe was eying Riley, her handsome cousin. I think Riley enjoyed all the extra special attention.

After listening to some great live music (think covers of songs that make you say, “Oh, I used to LOVE this song!”), spending time catching up with friends and dog-watching all the other dogs, we decided to call it a night. Race made one last attempt for Suzie’s margarita and Riley…well, Riley’s face just says it all.
