The Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI) is pleased to be recognized by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) as an approved CPR/AED and Wilderness First Aid training provider.

The national agreement between BSA and ECSI gives each unit, district, or council the ability to act as a stand-alone emergency care training center. With this independence, BSA staff and volunteers can teach emergency care courses as needed within their local scouting chapter.

ECSI training courses are offered in association with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP)—two of the most renowned medical organizations in the world. These organizations provide medical direction to the Emergency Care & Safety Institute and stand behind the content of our training materials and the operation of our organization. How can I provide an ECSI CPR/AED and/or Wilderness First Aid course for my scouts?

BSA units, districts, or councils can sign up to become a stand-alone emergency care training center (ECSI Education Center) where they can offer CPR/AED and Wilderness First Aid training programs to their Scouts. With this independence, BSA volunteers and staff can teach emergency care courses as needed within their local scouting chapter. Learn more.

I am a Wilderness First Aid and/or CPR/AED instructor for another nationally-recognized training organization. Can I be grandfathered in as an ECSI instructor?

If you have adequate content knowledge in the course(s) that you would like to teach, and you can demonstrate adequate teaching experience, you may request instructor reciprocity to become an ECSI instructor. Learn more.

I have little or no teaching experience, but would like to learn how to train others to perform life-saving skills. How do I get started?

If you have little or no teaching experience but would like to become a CPR/AED and/or Wilderness First Aid instructor, you can participate in an ECSI Instructor Development Course (IDC). This course covers topics such as teaching methodologies, complying with ECSI policies and procedures, following course objectives, and conducting skills practice sessions. If you would like help locating an authorized ECSI Instructor-Trainer in your area, please contact our Membership Office at 800-716-7264. What are the fees associated with becoming an ECSI Education Center or Instructor?

When you join ECSI as an Education Center or Instructor, you can rest assured knowing that there are no up-front or recurring training center or instructor fees.

HOW MUCH DOES ECSI CHARGE FOR DIGITAL COURSE COMPLETION CARDS?

ECSI provides Education Centers with a digital course completion card along with the purchase of each student manual, eBook, online course access code, or pocket guide. Upon successful completion of a course, digital course completion cards can be emailed to each student within an official ECSI course roster. It can also be printed out by the instructor and issued to scouts at the training location.

Please note, on-site skills examinations are required in order to earn a nationally recognized course completion card from ECSI. For more information on the blended training model, please visit www.ECSInstitute.org.

Are ECSI online CPR/AED courses available for BSA members?

Yes. ECSI CPR/AED blended online courses are available and approved, but will require a skills competency check with an ECSI instructor in order to receive a course completion card, which is recommended for adult leaders and certain merit badges. It is strongly recommended that you check to see if an ECSI instructor is available in your area for a skills check before purchasing the online course.
