What's In Bloom - June 1, 2024
Despite 8 inches of heavy, wet snow on May 24, the Garden is in full Spring with beauty everywhere you look.
The crabapples are in peak bloom at the moment! The white ‘Spring Snow’ crabapples are living up to their name as their blossoms not only survived the snow storm last week, but are also creating their own little blizzard of falling petals. Birds and bees are taking full advantage of the sweet nectar, especially the cedar waxwings.
The daffodils also survived the cold and continue to brighten walkways with their happy sunny hues. Snowdrop anemones just started blooming and will soon turn some of the perennial beds into a carpet of white. Various colors of creeping phlox are blooming including, much to my delight, the new ‘Eye Shadow’ purple phlox that were planted last year. There are also blooming globeflowers dotted around the Sunken Garden and the Pollinator Garden is boasting a gorgeous display of blooming sour cherries.

Our 2024 theme is Reading! The International Peace Garden continues to be focused on engaging youth in our programming. Classic Characters from toddler books to pre-teen will be featured in the floral designs and one of our accompanying features will include Story Boxes, strategically placed throughout the garden to encourage families to take some time to read one of the beautiful books contained within. We are looking for donations of the books listed on our Amazon book list. If you would like to donate a book or two, please click on the link below, select and purchase a title(s) from the list, and the book(s) will be mailed directly to the International Peace Garden. We appreciate your consideration and support of the IPG 2024 Reading theme.
