One hundred and one years after having won its first-ever Intercollegiate Rowing Association national championship, the Washington men’s rowing team won its 20th national title on Sunday.

2024 Awards of Excellence recipients announced

The awards honor outstanding alumni, faculty, staff, students and retirees who contribute to the richness and diversity of the university community. The awardees of the 54th annual UW Awards of Excellence will be honored at a ceremony in Meany Hall at 3:30 p.m. on June 6.

Earth’s limb was taken Feb. 12, 2020, from the International Space Station. The central dark band is smoke from summer wildfires in Australia. The smoke layer has reached the stratosphere, at 25 to 30 kilometers elevation, lofted to record heights during the wildfires by pyrocumulus clouds.

UW-led project a finalist for NASA’s next generation of Earth-observing satellites

The research project seeks to better understand the troposphere that we inhabit and the stratosphere above it, where the ozone layer is, as well as the interface where these two layers meet.
