The Yakubu Gowon Centre for National Unity and International Cooperation (YGC) was established in 1992 as a private, non-profit making, non-partisan, non-government organization (NGO).

- Civil Society Activity
The millennium development goals MDGs represent an agenda setting for transforming the living condition of all people at the turn of the third millennium. It is a new Global partnership that was declared by the world leaders at the UN Headquaters in New York in September 2000, which was to adopt the United Nations Millennium Declarations.
- Guinea Worm Eradication Project
The Yakubu Gowon Centre (YGC) began to be involved in the fight against Guinea worm in Nigeria in March 1999. This fight was necessitated by President and Mrs. Carter’s request for the involvement of General Dr. Yakubu Gowon GCFR and the Yakubu Gowon Centre to join hands with them and the Carter Center in the last phase of war to eradicated guinea worm in Nigeria by December year 2000.
- Malaria
In line with the DRAFT document “IMPLEMENTATION GUIDE FOR NMCP & PARTNERS –DIS STRIBUTION OF LONG LASTING INSECTICIDAL NETS THROUGH MASS CAMPAIGNS UNDER THE UNIVERSAL COVERAGE MODE, Yakubu Gowon Centre, a major recipient of Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria embarked on Universal campaign to distribute Long Lasting Insecticide Net in Ekiti State.
- HIV / AIDS
Yakubu Gowon Centre is a Principal Recipient (PR) of the Global Fund (GF) malaria rounds 4 and 8 grants with the mandate to implement in 18 states and 19 states respectively. The aim of the entire program is to reduce by 50% the Malaria disease burden in Nigeria by the end of the year 2010 using effective control strategies.lor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. - Democracy and Good Governance
Nigerians greeted the 1999 elections with enthusiasm after years of long military rule. The turn out was great and Nigeria's votes really counted. Considering the long years of military rule it was not a very bad experince.
- Hepatitis
Viral hepatitis is a major health challenge worldwide and is also very prevalent in Nigeria and many States including Taraba and Adamawa. Prevention resulting from strategically targeted behaviour change and communication campaign is the most effective way that will drastically reduce the spread of the virus. The triad of disease control is prevention, treatment and rehabilitation and the cheapest and safest of these is prevention. It is this knowledge that has prompted the Yakubu Gowon Centre (YGC) into this partnership with the National AIDs/STDs Control Programme (NASCP) in developing a programme that focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis B (HBV) and C(HCV) in Nigeria.
