From tags sales to general season openers, there’s a lot happening in Idaho next month that you should be aware of. Staying in the loop can be the difference between applying for that coveted controlled hunt tag and watching from the sidelines. Be sure to stay up to date on all Fish and Game happenings. Here are some important dates to help you plan for the month.
The Idaho Fish and Game Commission met via conference call and approved summer Chinook salmon seasons for the Upper Salmon and Lochsa rivers. The seasons will open Thursday, June 20 and remain open four days per week (Thursday-Sunday) on the Upper Salmon River and seven days per week on the Lochsa River until harvest goals are achieved or August 10, whichever comes first.
On the night of June 6, an Island Park resident shot and killed a yearling male grizzly as it charged the man’s girlfriend in front of their home near Last Chance.
The sport fishery for Chinook salmon in the Clearwater River from Cherrylane Bridge to the Orofino Bridge closes on Friday, June 14 to protect Chinook returning to hatcheries in the upper Clearwater River. The Idaho Fish and Game Commission will meet Wednesday, June 12 at 9 a.m. MDT via conference call. The Commission is scheduled to set the 2024 summer Chinook salmon fishing seasons, wolf trapping seasons, and discuss the Palisades Water Shares land acquisition.
Approximately 50 youth participated in the 29th annual Free Fishing Day Derby held June 8 at Kid's Creek Pond in Salmon. Prizes were awarded for the biggest fish caught in four age groups. In addition, over 110 people joined Fish and Game in celebrating 125 years of conserving Idaho's wildlife. Fish and Game employees provided a free lunch, and the public could experience and visit with local biologists at a variety of educational booths.
