still trying to find my "go-to" sushi place in NYC!
Yoshi Sushi is very REASONABLY PRICED & i like the unique special rolls they offer!! the only problem with their rolls was the RICE WAS A BIT HARD (perhaps because we came later in the night & the rice wasn't fresh?)
----SPICY BOY= spicy king crab on top of a white tuna tempura & jalapeno roll... i liked it!
----hollywood roll= salmon on top of a crispy eel & avocado roll, i liked my spicy boy better!
----eel & avocado: $5.50 for the 6 piece rolls! mMm
staff was nice & i liked the presentation of our sushi.. perhaps i'll try Yoshi Sushi once more, but earlier in the night to see if that resolves the hard rice problemHelpful 9Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0 - Ashley A.Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY106210366Jul 3, 2015
Ordered delivery and it was insanely quick. Although seamless told me it would take around 50 minutes, I got my food in about 10-15.
The food itself was pretty decent. Exactly what I'd expect from delivery sushi. I ordered the rainbow roll, mango salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, and crunchy shrimp roll. I think my favorite was the crunch shrimp roll due to the textures, but the spicy tuna came in a close second. I would not, however, recommend the salmon mango--it just doesn't taste as good as you think it would.
Rolls on average are around $4-6, but special rolls can go up into the double digits. Three of my rolls actually came in the Autumn Special, which included a choice of miso soup or salad. I opted for the miso soup, which was a great way to help the sushi along.
Overall, I would recommend delivery due to quick service and the sushi was pretty decent as well!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Valerie V.Los Angeles, CA5044991019Jun 11, 2011
I'm really surprised by the four star reviews, I stopped by Yoshi Sushi for lunch this afternoon with Natalia O. after our morning yoga class and a cross town hunt for kittens... (don't ask), not wanting to eat too much before Yoga class number two, we stopped by Yoshi for a cheap, fast and light lunch.
The space itself is nice and unassuming. Quant and inviting. Small, the sushi bar sits right in the front right of the space. The sushi was just ok, I didn't particularly like the selection of crab and another piece of the fish tasted fishy. The spicy crunchy salmon roll was just ok. I added that for a dollar to my lunch special which was reasonably priced.
I've had much better sushi, for Yoshi to get four stars is a little frightening considering the wealth of delicious sushi in Manhattan, even downtown.
Pass unless you're too hungry to walk further. It's not the best but I'm sure there is much worse.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Alexander E.Manhattan, NY15163Jun 16, 2012
I really liked this place at first, but things went a little strange.
Initially the waitress insisted that the party platter was an apppropriate amount of food for two people, and she would have been correct if the two people were the incredible hulk and Roseanne. Unfortunately me and my dinner companion are of standard human size.
The food was good. We ordered a wide variety of sushi including, but not limited to, the banana and shrimp-parts roll. I enjoyed eating and the sake made me feel warm, despite being of the cold variety.
After the meal I found myself a little bored, so I made a house out of the remaining sushi. I pieced it together using the lincoln logs aproach to architecture. It had one door, a thatched roof, and strong inner support. Another customer, an idiot, anounced as he walked by the table "that's a big mound of sushi." his assertation that it was a 'mound' was completely unfounded.
The waitress seemed unimpressed by my design skills and she took the food away. She returned with it wrapped up, disassembled. Later, in an effort to exact my revenge I launched the individual pieces of sushi from my fire escape at men wearing douchey-shirts. I hit several of them.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 12Oh no 0 - May 21, 2012
I'm always uncertain of a restaurant with no one dining, especially Friday during dinner.
We walked in and were immediately seated. Though since there was no one there, I would have expected them to space us out fairly from the other couple at the restaurant, but instead we were seated next to them.... why do restaurants always do this? ::awkward::
It had been a long time since my friends and I had seen each other, so we're yapping like Chatty Kathy's and every other minute the waiter asked us if we were ready... ugh no. Have you seen us look at the menu?
Surprisingly for dinner, they had some combos, 3 rolls and a salad between $16-18. Not the best deal, but glad to have one.
The food was pretty good, but I wasn't overall impressed. Would rather stepped up the class and chipped in a few more bucks.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 6298791513Dec 29, 2011
How hard is it to find a good cheap sushi place that delivers in the East Village? Plenty hard. I tried this place out yesterday and was excited to try my beloved tuna tataki which I've failed to find on menus of my usual delivery spots. What a disappointment. I should have known "special sauce" probably means "special"- as in "this isn't the standard ponzu sauce that tatakis traditionally include". I still ate it. Meh. Then I had the avocado salad. The avocado looked sketch to me. It was so light; it blended in with the white lettuce. Just strange.
I didn't try my boyfriend's rolls but just by having those two things above, I don't think I'll be hitting them up again anytime soon. So bummed. My search for the best East Village sushi spot continues...Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Angelie D.Los Angeles, CA883684364Mar 20, 2011
Our first night at NYC and us Californians had to see whether or not their sushi is better than ours. Overall I enjoyed this restaurant very much but they have nothing on Cali. There is something about fresh pacific ocean fish that makes it so much better in California.
This restaurant is fairly small but I enjoyed the hominess it brought to the place. They had bamboo sticks in big ceramic vases which gave the place a very garden feel to it.
Their sushi pieces and special rolls are affordable and their fish is very fresh.
We ordered yellowtail carpaccio and gyoza for the five of us. The semi sweet ponzu sauce on the yellowtail was a great addition to the fish. The gyoza was perfectly steamed and filled with meat.
We ordered two Manhattan specials which had 20 pieces of sushi, 1 special roll, and sashimi. That was absolutely perfect for five people. I was hooked on the salmon sashimi that night because it was very fresh. I liked the color of the tuna and flavor of the yellowtail. With our order we got free beer so we had to order sake to complete the BOMBS!
The highlight of the night were of course the sake bombs and we took a lot of them. A couple of bathroom trips later we were finally ready to leave!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - May 13, 2009
....Yeahhhhhh.... no.
That is what I will say, next time someone offers up Yoshi Sushi as a dining option. Initial agreement for sushi, followed by flashback to previous yoshi-sushi tasting, and slow but certain, refusal.
I won't, I can't, I shan't.
Rollin rollin rollin...
Sweet Potato: The best by far - but mostly because sweet potato is by nature sweet and tasty to some degree, and add in the fact that its dipped and fried in tempura, you've really got nothing to lose in that roll.
Spicy tuna: good but typical - and not that spicy
Salmon w/mango: not that great. dear yoshi's - please note: the mango needs to actually be ripe. otherwise you're just eating a yellow chunk o' nothingness. sincerely, me.
Spicy yellowtail with Jalapenos: what jalapenos? What did I just eat? Does this roll come with tongue scrapers? (we each ate one piece and left the rest of the roll to sit there and contemplate why it was so bad).
So why would I return? Um, yeah... no, i wouldn't.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 623722944Oct 22, 2012
Free saki for dinner over $30! Done~
Came here on saturday night with some friends. Fast service, no wait. Very tasty rolls, great quality. I've eaten here several times, always happy, generally no wait, great service. Pricer for the east village, but worth it due to the quality.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - George C.New York, NY1773614303May 19, 2015
