Educational Media Company at Virginia Tech

The Educational Media Company at Virginia Tech (EMCVT) is an independent governing body over student mass media organizations of the Virginia Tech campus. The EMCVT board of directors is made up of Virginia Tech faculty and staff, students, and members of the Blacksburg, Virginia community. As the parent company, EMCVT owns the copyrights on all media produced by its divisions.

MISSION STATEMENT

EMCVT provides Virginia Tech students with educational opportunities, experiential learning, and post-graduate mass media skills. EMCVT prepares students for professional competence in print, digital, social, and broadcast (radio and television) journalism, as well as experience in management, marketing, production, distribution, and the promotion of media.

The Collegiate Times

The Collegiate Times provides campus news, student opinions and updates on Hokie sports. Whether nearby or far away, you’ll always be up to date with campus happenings.

Silhouette

Silhouette is a semi-annual, student-run publication for undergraduate and graduate work from Virginia Tech students in the areas of poetry, prose, photography, art and all things creative.

Virginia Tech Television (VTTV)

WUVT 90.7FM

WUVT broadcasts 24 hours a day and serves the community with music, news, sports and public affairs programming. WUVT-AM and WUVT-FM are both operated by the students of Virginia Tech, with studios located in Squires.

The Bugle (ceased publication in 2022)

The Bugle is a great way for students and alums to be part of Virginia Tech’s proud tradition. There isn’t a better way to remember Virginia Tech than with our large, colorful coffee table-quality book. Doesn’t your Hokie deserve a yearbook?

Home to Virginia Tech’s award-winning student media organizations

EMCVT is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization created by Virginia Tech in 1997 as the successor to the Student Media Board. It fulfills the same mission as the old Student Media Board – providing broadly applicable, co-curricular educational experiences for Virginia Tech students through the production of mass media information and entertainment for the community. EMCVT’s student organizations are the Collegiate Times, publishing a print edition and collegiatetimes.com; WUVT 90.7 FM; Virginia Tech Television Channel 33; The Bugle, the yearbook of Virginia Tech since 1895; and the Silhouette Literary and Arts Magazine.
